100 days of creating, practicing, writing, blogging, marketing, learning, making, reading, searching.
What a journey this has been. I’m starting to find my voice, I’m starting to be proud of my work, I’m starting to be comfortable letting the world get to know me.
I have changed so much as a writer, blogger, and most importantly a calligrapher. I tried so many new projects and commissions. I said YES to everything that stretched me as a person and artist and NO to everything that didn’t support me physical, emotionally, and financially.
It’s been awesome. I will absolutely continue blogging and showing my work on a regular schedule. Not exactly sure what that schedule is, will have lots of time for reflection these next 2 weeks. Or, as life tends to go, I will MAKE time for reflection these next 2 weeks.
Most importantly, I want to take a moment to thank YOU.
Thank you for following me on Instagram and Facebook.
Thank you for liking my posts and sharing my giveaways.
Thank you for telling your friends about my business!
Thank you for reading this blog and commenting on my work.
Thank you for supporting this journey!
I truly, truly could not have done it without you. I’m thankful from the bottom of my heart.
How much do you love this saying? Gosh, I saw it and had to letter it. One of the envelope orders I did this past weekend used a combination of script lettering and block lettering. I used this style block lettering and haven’t stopped! On the envelopes I spaced everything out pretty far but I mixed and matched the spacing on the print. It’s rare that I write out a quote and have it laid out exactly how I want it, it usually takes me about 10 edits of rearranging. This one though, I wrote it exactly like this and stuck with it! It’s up in the Etsy shop if you’re looking for a gift for a friend!
That’s it for today, gotta keep my productivity streak going. If I sit here too long I’ll get sucked into the vortex that is the internet! 😉
I’m currently sitting in the waiting area of the CVS MinuteClinic. Ready to get my travel immunizations, finally!!
I have a break in the middle of the day today that I don’t typically have. I brought my computer and camera to work on tonight’s print but the coffee shop I pulled into just happens to share a parking lot with CVS. I was like, “Crap. Go do it.” So here I am! I’m next in line so hopefully it won’t take too long!
I am a little nervous, I never even get a flu shot. I just hope there aren’t any side effects to anything I’m getting. Gotta run long on Friday, after all! Priorities. 😝
I was searching Pinterest for some good quotes and I really liked this one. I know a lot of people who attack things in their life with a passion that is partially fueled by their desire to prove someone wrong. “He said I couldn’t do it.” “My Doctor said I wouldn’t be able to do it.” “Those girls call me crazy.”
Proving people wrong is awesome, whatever motivates you!
I find a little bitterness in those words though, action fueled by anger and resentment. Probably to a fault, I’m the kind of person that thinks I can do anything because I know I’ll work hard and never give up. So if it’s something I really care about, like learning calligraphy and starting my own business, then I know I can do it! I know I will put in the time and energy and effort. Only a few people scoffed at me, but I like to think it’s more because it was out of left field, not because they didn’t believe I could do it.
When you quietly put in the work and never give up, you’ll accomplish your goal. Whatever “it” is. I know you will. The time will pass anyways, put the time to the best possible use.
And the truth of the matter is, that person you’re trying to prove wrong…they are watching and they are inspired and ready to try it for themselves. Because of you. ❤️
Hope you had a great day, thanks so much for reading!
Starting to wrap up all my projects! I finished all my envelope orders today and got them sent off. Only 2 days until I leave for vacation! Having fun with a few more running inspired prints for the Etsy shop, today is one to celebrate qualifying for Boston. This past weekend was the Dallas Marathon as well as my favorite race, the BCS Marathon. It was awesome to follow and track friends that were running! I have a friend that qualified for Boston after 3 years of trying, I’m so happy for him!
The first time I qualified it wasn’t by enough to get me into the actual race. The following year though I qualified by 10 minutes, a huge buffer! It was years and years and years of work to get to that point and one of the things I’m the most proud of in my whole life. I had a great race, it was one of those days that no matter what went wrong, I stayed positive and happy and believed. It was freaking awesome.
Hope you guys had a great day, thanks so much for checking in! My 100th day is Friday!!
It feels like it was 30 hours ago that I went for a run! It’s been a great day, just a little hectic. My run tomorrow is longer than normal, totally not complaining, I love that, it just means I have to start earlier! If I can swing it, I’ll be asleep when this blog post is published. 🙂
I woke up at midnight last night and couldn’t go back to sleep until around 2:00. Does that ever happen to you? I had that damn Hippopotamus for Christmas song in my head and IT. WOULD. NOT. STOP. I am hesitant to even type those words for fear it gets stuck in my head again! I am typically the best sleeper, I’m asleep before my head hits the pillow and I’m out until about 5 minutes before my alarm goes off. I try never to stress when I have nights like last night because they are so rare. I have friends that really struggle with getting regular sleep so I am super thankful I normally do!
I couldn’t decide on a running print so I made two! My shop, my rules! 🙂 Can you even have too many prints that proclaim your love of running? I don’t think so. Which one do you like best?? I love the blue watercolor heart. I made a pink one too but I like this one better.
Hope you’ve had a great day!!! Thank you so much for reading, let me know which you like better! The first or the second print? I’ll be back tomorrow with hopefully a little more sleep in me!
I got up early and got all my envelopes done! I still have one more order to go before vacation but I’m waiting on the address list from the client. Hopefully I’ll have them done tomorrow! It’s been really fun working on them all weekend.
My hubby and I went to a local trail and enjoyed some time in the dirt today! I hiked, fast, and it was exhausting. I swear running is so much easier. Every time I want to whine about walking/hiking I remind myself that my 100 mile career is just beginning. I need to become a faster hiker. During the last 13 miles of Leadville 100 it took SO much effort to run. All my will, every single thing I had. But it was the only way I was going to make the time cut off. I couldn’t just hike. My hike was SO slow, there’s no way I would have made it. (My drill sergeant pacer is why I made that time goal!!! She’s the best.)
Anytime I get on the trail, no matter what I’m doing, I’m happy to be out there. It was a great afternoon!
Featured Digital Printable: Do What You Love
I was feeling inspired after working on envelopes, I made this print using my Tombow brush pen. I’ve got the print in the shop ready for you to print out. The resolution is high enough that you can print on a 20×30″ canvas and it will look great. For smaller prints, it will be even better! I’ve had 2 people send me a picture of their prints in frames, I love that! If you’ve bought a print off Etsy, I’d love to see what you do with it!!
Short week for me but I’ve got a list a mile long of things to get done before we leave for Belize! Most important, my travel immunizations. My MIL will kill me if we don’t do that. Gotta go tomorrow, don’t let me put it off any longer! Yikes!
Thanks for reading, see you tomorrow!! 5 more days!!
Was just talking with my hubby about how today is day 88!! I’m not totally surprised that I’ve made it this far, challenges are my jam. (#typeA #obsessive) But, still, 88 days is a long time! One time I was chatting with my friend Erin about how I have so few ideas in my brain, I make sure I take action on each one because they don’t happen very often! Unlike the person that is just full of ideas and can brainstorm for hours and days and then carefully picks the idea they should stick with. I have an idea and I’m like, haaaaang on Mr. Idea! Don’t go anywhere! I’ve got you!
Instagram vs 100 day challenge
I love following calligraphers and other artists on Instagram. There’s an amazing community of creatives on there and they produce just incredible things every day. However, I have really stayed away the last 88 days because it was just too much. Trying to come up with a new product/photo/idea every day was all my brain could handle. I would be so overwhelmed by the incredible talent, I’d start having doubts about what I’m doing and creating.
I’m looking forward to following them for inspiration and education again once this challenge is over! I have all these ideas post-challenge. I’m going to do this and that and this and that. But, I’m thinking like being a teacher, you put every thing off until the summer because THEN you’ll have time to do this and that. But then summer comes and it’s all, OH MY GOSH IT’S AUGUST. WTH. WHERE DID SUMMER GO?!?
I think that’s how this might be! I am looking forward to having the time to focus on just a few blog posts a week, posts with actual content and not just my mindless chatter. But I bet when all is said in done, it will feel like I’m still swamped for time. Because, LIFE. Right? 🙂
I hope you’ve had a great weekend!! It’s been the coziest weekend for me in front of my Christmas tree!
This new “Adventure” print is in the Etsy shop! Only $5.48 for the digital download!
